Fall
By Kulkarni Venugopal
buckle
my cheek against the cold
the glass, the whip whip
whipping headlights, the smearing poles, the dead
deer, did you see
before the dark, the burning
orange? i dangled
my feet, i reached
only the wind
shield, the hum hum
humming dark, unspooling, spinning
curves, the curves, the hum
under my tongue, the seat
drank me in
the back, the nodding
quiet, the tired quiet
did you see the burning
orange? buckle buckle
unbuckle
my knees
the leaves
the fall beneath
the unbreathed quiet
the orange drops
wiped like sodium lights
the warm, the crashing
blue green red orange, i wish
you were here
but everything was fast
asleep.
